Maintaining handheld device security requires constant effort, sufficient resources, and vigilance from an organization. Maintaining the security of a handheld (A computerised device designed to be carried around in the hand for mobile use) device usually involves the following steps:

  • Maintaining physical control of the device
  • Employing content encryption,user authentication and other available security facilities
  • Reducing exposure of sensitive data
  • Enabling wireless interfaces only when needed
  • Recognizing and avoiding actions that are questionable

  • Employing malware detection and prevention software.
  • Backing up data frequently
  • Test and apply critical patches and updates in a timely manner
  • Enable, obtain, and analyze device log files for compliance
  • Evaluate device security periodically.
  • Establish and follow procedures for recovering from compromise
